Bad User Interface Panel-Troubled Ice/Water Dispen

The Good- It keeps cold things cold. The Bad - We're waiting on the 3rd replacement User Interface Display panel to be delivered for installation (BestBuy GeekSquad extended warranty). The factory-installed display started to fail after ~2 years. Replacement display failed after ~2 years. The 2nd replacement display was delivered and installed with a bad LED from day one (Freezer set temp/temp reading will not indicate negative temp) b/c of failed LED on board. (both prior boards started failing with 1 or 2 LEDs going out before there were too many missing to clearly make out the display) We're now waiting for the 3rd replacement board and 5th service call to the house to try and clear this up. Replacement boards are somewhere between $150-$200. Without the extended service contract this unit would be 50% of the cost of a new one in replacement parts alone in less than 5 years. After service plan expires we'll have to make decision to continue to DIY the repair out of pocket or eventually replace the entire refrigerator (user interface is the only place to set child lock out, change temp set points, reset filter notification lights, etc, so without it all of the options you pay for become useless) The ice maker is constantly jamming. Cubes dispense from the ice make with 2-4 cubes intact to one another, which clogs up the ice chute, causing ice to back up into the freezer. You have to open the freezer door and reach into the chute to pullout or push through the jammed cubes, most often causing them fall all over the floor. The manual states that it's recommended to periodically open the freezer and shake the ice try to break up the intact cubes to try and help minimize this issue . . . for a mid-to-high end unit in the "Gallery" collection, it just seems like "shaking the ice tray" shouldn't be a necessary step. This becomes esp embarrassing when there are guests at the home who have ice back up on them, then they have to call you into the kitchen, and there you stand, with your hand have shoved into the chute of your ice maker as it spills out cubes all over your floor, and you're playing the ice cube hockey puck on the kitchen floor game (or kick it under the fridge to melt and evaporate out of site). Also, periodically the ice machine will stop producing ice long enough that the entire tray goes empty. I'm not sure if the maker goes through it's own defrost cycle to keep it from freezing up and this causes a delay, but our house of 2 adults and 1 minor child normally leave the tray full, except for about 10 times a year when you find yourself inexplicably with zero ice in the tray

Kept this fridge for 3 years and finally gave it away. From the moment we bought it, we spent a lot of time at home going, "What's that noise?".After about a year, the freezer started making such a racket, I had to turn it off in the middle of the night.Figured out ice was building up around the evaporator fan and learned how to fix it.After dismantling the thing the third time I finally decided I'd had enough. Don't think I'll buy another Frigidaire.

We bought this frig based on you place a large water bottle or cup under the ice or water without having to tilt the cup. The ice dispenser gets stuck often and too much falls out or randomly hits the floor after you've walked away. You often have to open the door and unjam ice. Or run you hand up the dispenser to loosen the jam. Very aggravating. I would not recommend.

This unit is over 3 years old and out of warranty so I don't expect any help from the manufacturer. Our problem is and has been the ice maker. Ice maker has been replaced twice and serviced more than 4 times. The main issue is the ice dispenser. Ice OFTEN gets clogged in the dispenser chute, trapping the dispenser door open making the dispenser "THINK" we still have a container under the dispenser, making it continue to try to dispense ice. The ice backs up. When you open the freezer door, all the backed up ice spills out. Factory service has tried to remedy the issue by adjusting the water level in the tray to make the cubes smaller but that has never helped. The second issue is the fact that this maker is incredibly slow at making ice. We have an older Gallery model out in the garage with the older style ice maker that makes ice 3x faster. I can empty the ice container and it will refill it in one day. The ice maker in this unit will often run out with just regular use of just two people and it can not keep up. I was told that this refrigerator was available with the older style maker but you can not retrofit. This ice maker is total JUNK and right now, we are about to junk the whole unit to get one with a usable ice maker.

I love how quickly it makes ice even without using the 'quick ice' feature. The storage is great. As someone who has 15 different 2L bottles inside along w/other items it stores what I need on the refrigerator-side. I find the freezer to be on the small-side so families of 4 might find a need for a larger unit or a stand-alone freezer. The one 'bad' thing is the ice maker will sometime 'jam' and I've learned that as soon as I stop having ice come out but still here it dispensing it is to immediately open the freezer door. The first two times I learned the hard way and when I opened it up had ice go ALL over the kitchen floor.I live alone so this suites me well but I wonder about 'normal' size families.
